Just a quickie: Naked man in Khuwair!

Now this picture came to me over WhatsApps the day before yesterday, and it's subsequently done the rounds on Twitter and Facebook, but it's just so amusing, and unexpected for this part of the world I wanted to share it here.

As the temperatures in the Sultanate soar once again for the summer, at least one man has decided clothes are an unnecessary layer of clothing adding to his heat - so stripped off. He did choose to follow at least part of Australia's 80's sun-protection program, slip slop slap, and slapped on a hat to protect his head from the sun. Clever chap.

Well done to Andrea of the OJ's Costume Hire shop for snapping the piccy - certainly a first for Muscat!

le fin.

  1. Why did I presume that it would be a drunk ajnabi!

  2. Yes, only foreigners get drunk anon. I've heard of this man before and he is obviously mentally ill. A bit more tact please.

presumably because you have lived a sheltered life and missed similar events in Muttrah , Dhofar , and points beyond - not caught on camera for your education though

  4. Maybe he should have hired some clothes from Andrea's shop!

  5. A bit more tact? If he's known to be mentally ill he should be supervised.

  6. is he the guy who comes up to people and shouts at them in and around Qurm. The same guy wanders the streets and directs traffic there.

On the subject of nudity - go down to Shatti beach any night of the week and in the bushes you'll likely see more naked Omanis (and Westerners)!!

  7. Seen lots of Omanis pulling themselves off in the bushes in Shatti when they see a middle-aged lumpy woman in a swimsuit, never mind a naked one!

  8. To be fair, it is REALLY hot...

  9. You should come to Salalah! We have a couple of nature-dudes too.

  10. is this true about the bushes along shatti qurum? Is there any dogging action to be found?

I think you mean Khalfan or 'Kelvin' as he calls himself when he meets expats.

One of the local Muscatis will be able to tell you the full story about this guy. He is, in fact, very intelligent and is some kind of a math genius gone awry.

And on the subject of genius gone awry....who is the guy who sits in City Centre in the coffee-shops, correcting what appear to be math or physics problems in books (assuming he's a teacher somewhere) but seems to mutter to himself all the time.....last time I saw him, he was screaming into the key as he got into his car.....Oman does that to you sometimes I suppose :)

And finally, who is the 'lurker' down in CCC Qurum. Hovers around the shopping area. Harmless, but creeps out my missus.

Apparently he was a doctor or lecturer or something like that and basicall went mad. I remember him once coming into Subway in CCC and screaming at a very startled Westerner eating his sandwich. That lasted about 5 seconds and then he calmly walked away! He's an ace at directing traffic.

  13. God bless Khalfan!

I gave Khalfan / Calvin a few lifts in the car over the years. The guy really knows his English lit. We once had a 30 minute discussion on the narcissism of King Lear while stuck in traffic between Qurm and Shatti.

Hope you all are being kind to him, wherever he is.

khalfan 7up as I call him witnessed terrible atrocities by the vicious blacks during the zanzibar rebellion in 1964, which scarred him for life. He is an honourable man but some of his conversation topics can be uncomfortable.

  15. Just to add my piece about Khalfan/Kelvin... Because he persisted in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, his family sent him to Saudi Arabia for psychiatric evaluation. This meant extensive shock treatment to try to reform him but to no avail. Unfortunately he is permanently affected by the latter. As he's an embarrassment to his family I believe they have disowned him. If you see him, offer him a lift, be nice to him. He needs it. Ross

  17. Wait a minute- Khalfan Kevin was persecuted by the blacks (of which he clearly is) and received electro-shock therapy in Saudi?
What a full life he has lead, no wonder he is relaxing in the sun now.

  19. II think this is the same guy who used to sleep in the British Council, MQ. There are different stories about him some of which are recounted below.

I just hope someone looks out for him.
