Valentines day roundup

Ahh yes, that special day is nearly upon us once again, which means expensive flowers, chocolates and other gifts are about to be given to our loved ones. If like me, you like to take your partner out for a nice dinner to celebrate Valentines day, then here's a round up of a few various Valentines themed events happening around town, and a little further afield too:

Grand Hyatt, Muscat

"All you need is love" Valentine's brunch at Mokha Cafe - RO 22 with soft drinks, RO 35 with special drinks
Tuscany - RO 40 for a 4 course Italian set menu
Marjan - RO 23 (or RO 30 with special drinks) for Indonesian set menu.
Sirj tea lounge - RO 18 per couple for afternoon tea while Zara the resident pianist tickles the ivory.
John Barry Bar - Special night for couples with free flow of "Valentines Prosecco Fizz" for the ladies all night.
Safari Rooftop Grill - Set menu priced at RO 35
Safari Club - 3 day Valentine's bash, Thursday, Friday and Saturday - ladies get a complimentary Valentine shooter between 11pm and midnight each day.


The Chedi, Muscat

The Long Pool Cabana - RO 50++ (or RO 70++ including a glass of bubbles) per couple for dinner. The food is mostly Japanese and Middle Eastern fare - I'd go for the 50 package and get their cocktails!!
The Beach Restaurant - RO 50++ per person for a 6-course set menu
The Spa - A couples treatment including a 1 hour Balinese massage, a Chedi Love Bath ceremony with canapes and a glass of bubbly - RO 170++ per couple.

For those of you wanting to do something very special indeed for this Valentines, The Chedi also have the Romantic Getaway package: Begin with limo transfer from your house, 2 nights stay in their Chedi Club Suite with full club benefits and a complimentary mini-bar. A Chedi Love Bath ceremony in a couples treatment room then onto dinner with a 3 course menu which you can have in your Villa, or out on the beach, along with a bottle of bubbly & some chocolate dipped strawberries. They have Valentines day room packages available which start from RO 69++ and a number of F&B options as below:

Trader Vics - RO 28++ per person. The newly refurbished Traders will be doing a 4 course dinner and a complimentary cocktail per couple
Musandam - RO 20++ per person for buffet dinner, with optional upgrade for drinks package available.
Tomato - Set menu of Italian cuisine for RO 25 ++

Or for something a bit more special, you could book the pool island in a very special setup. RO 125 ++ per couple which includes the romantic Valentine's set menu along with a bottle of Moet. Spaces are very limited!!

You can also order special Valentines cakes from the very excellent Majlis Al Shams' cafe too.

Shangri-La, Muscat

Stay in the hotel and get: buffet breakfast for 2 people, free upgrade to Deluxe sea view room, special Valentine drink in the room, an F&B credit (RO 40 or 70, depending which hotel you book in), RO 60 of credit at CHI spa, flowers, chocolate and cake and a complimentary B.A.B signature cocktail for two people.

Holiday Inn, Seeb

A Special BBQ dinner for RO 19++ including mocktails, soft drinks and juices.

Sifawy Hotel, Sifa

RO 150 per couple, includes a cruise & light lunch on SY Azzura, BBQ dinner, room and breakfast the next morning. You can upgrade for RO 30 to attend their Valentines day brunch (including drinks), RO 20 to upgrade to a suite, and RO 30 (per person) to go on a sunset cruise.


Park Inn, Muscat

A special room rate of RO 79++ includes breakfast, a "hotel surprise" (har har) in the room and a 20% discount on prices in the RBG restaurant for dinner - the offer is available all month. The Sama Terrazza will be business as normal but with the Malagasy Duo serenading diners throughout the evening between the 12th and 14th of February.

Al-Falaj Hotel, Muscat

The Sports Cafe - RO 10 per person for a 3 course set menu with glass of bubbles
Souq Cafe & Terrace - Buffet dinner for RO 7.5 per person between 7pm and 11pm.

Hormuz Grand, Seeb

Attend their dessert workshop at The Straits on the 13th to create a special desert to take home  or have as desert at dinner the following day. Workshop costs RO 10 per person or is free if you book for dinner on the 14th.

Grill it for your Girl - RO 30 ++ per couple (kids under 5 free, 6-12 cost RO 8++) take over the grill for dinner and cook it how you want it along with a salad and dessert buffet.

Sweep her off her feet, if you decide you want to spend the night after "grilling it for your girl" it's RO 80 for a deluxe room in the hotel.

Al Sawadi Beach resort and spa, Sawadi

3 packages ranging from RO 55 (night & breakfast), 65 (plus dinner) and 85 (plus lunch) - You also get to attend the Love is on the Beach party which is on the 13th February and runs from 2pm till 1am.

Alila hotel, Jabal Akhdar

Stay for a night and get an hours couples massage followed by a "warm chocolate body wrap" (edible undies?!) followed by a half hour soak in the Jacuzzi - RO 166 per couple including breakfast. There's a 3 course set menu for RO 22 per person as well.

Rumba Lattina, The Cave Muscat

RO 15 ++ per person, set 3 course menu, live Latin jazz performance on the 14th. Set menu is available from 12-14th Feb

A Valentine's cake and coffee for RO 3.7, or heart-shaped cookies for RO 1.5

Mumtaz Mahal, Qurum

RO 50 per couple includes a glass of bubbly and a 5 course dinner on the 14th.

Left Bank, Qurum

13th Feb - Valentine's speed-dating event from 7-9pm. RO 25 on the door, cocktails and canapes all night.
14th Feb - Valentine's evening, RO 15 on the door, 2 free cocktails for ladies. 

Route 66, Shatti

13th Feb - Valentine's party - Live music with T-Band. RO 15 for couples, RO 10 single entry along with a welcome drink for all.

On the Rocks, Seeb

13th Feb, Goa Bullfrog, RO 25 for singles, RO 40 for couples, VIP tables for RO 240. Starts at 8pm.

Zouk, Qurum

14th Feb, Valentine Party - business as usual otherwise.


Rotana Resort, Salalah

Romantic Escape package - RO 140 - Airport transfers, candlelit dinner on the beach for two, breakfast in bed, a couples treatment at Zen the spa and of course the room as well. Guests who book to stay before 14th February also have a chance to win 1 of 14 pearl sets from Malabar Gold & Diamonds.
