Eid Holidays announced

Earlier today the Eid holidays have been announced:

Eid holidays start on Wednesday 7th August.

If the first day of Eid falls on Thursday 8th August, everyone returns to work on Sunday 11th August.

If the first day of Eid falls on Friday 9th August, everyone returns to work on Tuesday 13th August.

Eid is currently projected to fall on Thursday 8th August, but it may not be visible to the naked eye, which means because Oman is old school, Eid won't be called until Thursday night (aka Friday).

One can hope!

  3. As usual, Sythe is correct. The announcement is from the Oman News Agency and is from H.E. Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of the Royal Court. The first day of the holidays for Eid Al Fitr will be Wednesday, 7th August.

It's not at all likely that the moon will be sighted on Wednesday. Accordingly, the last day of the holidays will be Monday, 12th August and work will resume on Tuesday, 13th August.

For the likelihood of a moon sighting, visit this site and scroll down to see the likelihood on each of the days-

  5. Why is Oman old school? What do u mean by that?

  6. Because you don't need to see the moon to know where it is. My 5-year old knows how to use an app on an iPad that shows you what the moon looks like.
