Oman wins in the footy, and other things.

First up,

Congratulations to the Omani soccer lads, who put the Myanmar game to bed with a sound 2-0 victory at home in the latest World Cup qualifier. The second leg is in Myanmar this Thursday - I'm sure the guys will do well then too :)

Next, Sohar, again.

This time a journalist was detained in Sohar as he was gathering information on the protesters. That's not what amused me, what amused me was that the protesters were protesting about the fact their friends had been sentenced to jail for... protesting. Oh, and they wanted more jobs. I guess they should have thought about that before they burned down LuLu's. Muppets.

The demolition of LuLu's is well under way and rumours are that construction of a new store is to be fast tracked with an opening pegged for early next year. I'll believe it when I see it!

Whilst on the topic of supermarkets, Carrefour is opening in direct competition with LuLu's in Ghubra/Bowsher at the new Tilal complex. I guess Waitrose pulled out then. Still no idea on the opening date - if you know please let us all know.

Next,

Tonight there is the free music concert at the Al Bustan Palace hosted by the US Embassy, it starts at 8pm and everyone is invited.

For fruit-phone users, Apple have launched an App store for Oman (not iTunes though, as far as I'm aware). I'm about as anti-Apple as they come, but for those who prefer fruit-based technology, they can now use an Omani credit card to buy their favourite apps.

And finally for today - Have you entered the competition for Yolanda Be Cool that is this Wednesday night? 2 free tickets worth RO 15 each are up for grabs. See here for details on how to enter!

More soon.

  1. Carrefour is opening an 'express' store there as I heard it.

  2. the Tilal complex could be suffering from lack of credibility and cash
so an opening date might not be certain until the morning after the night before

  3. It's suppose to be opening in November? lol

  4. I believe the Carrefour 'Opening Soon' sign is the same one that was up at the Qurum City Centre site for three years prior to it opening. :o)
