Weekend activities

Is it me or is it hotter now than it was in early August? I was hoping that we'd be entering the cooler winter climates by now, but apparently we're paying for the unusually long winter we had last year, and it's hotter than ever!

The biggest thing going on this weekend is the Splash Bash down at the Sifawy hotel down on Seifa beach (or Jebel Seifa as they like to say). Pricing is a bit steep at RO 75 a person but it does include an overnight stay at the hotel too (assuming double occupancy) as well as BBQ dinner, open bar and breakfast the following morning too. So basically RO 150 for a couple for a stay in their hotel plus access to the beach party. If you happen to have your own boat and want to berth it there, you can, for free, and entry-only tickets are RO 50 a person (no stay in the hotel).

However, there's a few things going on around town....

Tonight at the InterCon, in partnership with the Embassy of the United States of America invite everyone to a free Rock concert with the band Act of Congress. It all kicks off tonight at 7pm and runs for 2 hours, food and drink will be available at extra cost.

French patisserie, Fauchon had a soft opening in the Opera Galleria a week or two ago (it's formal opening is October 1st). It's a fancy high-end cake shop essentially (they have teas and coffees too). The buzz is that it's pretty good and worth a visit - I've not been myself yet but perhaps I'll get there next week. You can see all sorts of pictures of stuff they have on offer over on their Instagram account.

The Grand Hyatt are having their Taste of India promotion start this weekend and it will run for 9 days. It's RO 20 net for the buffet in their Mokha cafe. If you like Indian food, then this is something for you, perhaps you'll find something new that you like :)

Over in the InterCon, Tomato has re-opened for the winter months, and are currently having a really good pasta promotion each night from 7pm. Well worth a look if you like your Italian food, its an outdoor (mostly) restaurant so dress lightly!

As far as late night entertainment, Nutsnbolts hasn't updated their facebook page since July, Zouk haven't mentioned anything for this weekend, and Rock Bottoms is, well, they're still on my naughty list for what one of their bouncers did to a friend of mine. Politely put, I honestly can't recommend anyone to go there, but there's no mention of anything "special" going on this weekend. The scene at Trader Vics is picking up (those cocktails are deadly) and its the last weekend of their Thai promotion too. The newly re-renovated Al Ghazal pub (new pool tables are killer) is also pretty good, on Tuesday nights they are also running pool and darts competitions too. And lastly... the dominant club in Muscat, Safari at the Hyatt... it's business as usual with happy hour until 10pm and watch out for those flavour vodka shooters....deadly!

On Saturday morning, there is another Dar al Atta book sale in the CCC in Qurum... between 9:30am and 12:30pm.... also feel free to bring books along that you want to donate to their cause.

Have a great weekend everyone!

le fin.
