O'Malley's Irish bar at the Radisson Blu

On Friday the 6th of January, the new Irish bar named O'Malley's replacing The Cellar at the Radisson Blu hotel in Al Khuwair started trading in what is being called a soft opening.

No word yet on pricing I popped in there for a quick pint tonight - RO 2.7 for a pint of Stella. It sure does look pretty, here's another snap:

Well it certainly looks nice, no word yet on the menu or the bar pricing - if you've been, please comment and share your experiences with the rest of us! I'd say it'll be busy this weekend...

  1. I've been. Nicely decorated, very Irish. Prices are same as other pubs while i have not tried the food. Hopefully it'll take off!

  2. If it is done by the Radisson you can be pretty sure it will be well executed, especially the food. I do find their prices to be a little high in general, but let's see.
    Good luck to them.

  4. OCI & BigMan - for sure it'll be nice!

Bedwin, Feeneys is a bad word around these parts, their manager is an ass.

  5. Feeneys is a shithole!
I have not been back there for over a year.
Is it still being run by the lard-ass?

  6. Went twice to O'Malleys already. great place; food is top, service friendly, beer is cold. Definitely nicer in looks than Feeney's and the Manager is also talking to you and not just grumbling...!

  7. Been to O'Malleys - great new bar, lovely decor. Also good food menu, prices were very reasonable i thought - they have a bar and a lounge section, the lounge part is very cosy... i believe they want to keep this part also mainly for couples and diners which is great and hopefully they succeed in making it more female friendly

  8. I haven't been yet, but I know Feeney's pretty well. I think it's as close to an Irish bar as you can get, although the food sucks and I wish they had actual Irish music. Having said that, at least the manager is Irish. Authenticity counts for a lot with Irish boozers.

  9. Been there a couple of times, not a bad place, prices pretty good compared to others.
Just find it hard to relax in there, too many suited Managers hanging around trying to make everything over perfect! Maybe they need to relax a little themselves, at the end of the day its a pub for people to relax in! Watched one of the Managers teaching one of the bar staff to pull a pint of guinness, the pint pulled by the staff had a nice creamy head, the one pulled by the Manager was as flat as a pancake!!

  10. WOW! O'Malley's!
An absolute gem of a pub, just like walking into a bar in Dublin.
The food quality was fantastic,& the Guinness??? The best in Oman!
Prices are a little cheaper than most places. Great atmosphere. What more could you want?
    Top job :)

  12. What's this nonsense about Feeney's? Great bar with very friendly staff and John's an ok geezer it's just that some people don't get his sense of humour. At least he's genuine Irish!!!

  13. Been to O'Malleys now to see for myself. Nice decor but terrible service, staff all look miserable as sin, not a smile in the place. Music way too loud if you actually want to talk to the people you're with.

  14. As an Irish man with many many years of pubs and pints of Guinness I have to say the opening of O'Malley's almost brought a tear to my eye. It is a great option in the city. However two things bother me, one the Guinness is not poured correctly, at least not consistently, which for any decent Irish pub is a major no no and secondly the music is way to loud. Irish pubs are about chat and craic not over bearing music which kills the art of conversation. Well done but please please turn down the music, its not necessary.

  15. Having recently moved to Muscat from Dublin myself, fair play to all those involved in bringing O'Malleys to fruition. It is greatly appreciated! However I must say I do agree with the previous comment regarding the poor pulling of pints of Guinness (if nothing else, we at least need to count on a proper pint) and the loud music. I understand that some of your customers may want loud music, but a compromise needs to be reached between music and conversation. So - as requested by previous commentators - do kindly turn down the music. But all in all very many thanks for bringing O'Malleys to life. Slainte.

  16. Well been to O'Malleys... Its really nice BUT.... Where is that really nice friendly Irish Bat Manager Gone ? He had a great way with Customers and had some reallyt good Ideas. This lets the Place Down ! What a Loss. BUT if they get someone as good as he was i am sure it will be a Great!! Needs atmosphere.. Music was to Loud and staff need Direction ( which i taught was happening last year with old Manager ) BUT the very best of luck to all the Staff.

  17. Leave Feeneys alone !! They are long established.. The Manager John needs a personality transplant But fair play to them they are still goin strong. O'Malleys need to bring back that good Irish Bar manager they had as he knew how to make the Bars work and had a great personal touch. They LOST when they moved him,Probably a Radisson move to another hotel !! ( Stupid Move) He not only helped the Bars but as far as myself and alot of ex-Pats i know saw this guy in every area of the Hotel and knew how to opperate !! BUT i hope they move him back to Muscat or Get someone with his ideas and motivation in service and get the staff back on track. Radisson need to realise what they have when they have it and i hope with this new concept they start to get it Right.. Yes Music is to Loud and staff Need a smile and where is the " Welcome ".
    Dissapointed

" The last Bar Manager from Ireland (morgan) new the job and most of all Customer Service ". Why did they Transfer Him ?? So Stupid !! This Bar is Lovely But is lacking his personality. BUT good luck to you all.

He was an inspiration , Hard working , Focused on his staff which rubbed off on customers. I feel if the Radisson got there act together and got him back O'Malleys would be a lot better and would attract our custom back.
O'Malleys needs a Leader a Friend a Hard working manager like Morgan do yourselves a favour Move him back from which ever hotel you moved him from !. Best of luck to the new Manager for the Hotel and most of all Best of Luck O'Malleys.x x

  21. i was there some time during this year but the bar, Manager was Declan, just arrived, and very engaging too. He was being "played" by the Indians in the kitchen area who had no interest in his success...Typical!!
Never met Morgan, the previous manager but if the Suits get their act together, they will realize that a manager can make an Irish bar.
There is too much infighting, jealousy and evil in the "Hospitality Industry" Is Radisson the same?? SHAME

  23. Stopped by and found that the Danish woman in charge [Margret] was extremely rude and nasty. The other servers were very nice. I have decided to go to other places until she [Margret] is replaced.

  27. Had over-priced and horrible fish and chips. There was at least twice as much batter as fish and the fish was mushier than the peas!! Complained that it was old or over-cooked, the chef claimed this peculiar white fish just came soft. What a liar!! Don't buy the food.

  28. Well, I have recently just come back from Oman, where I was on Business, called into O'Malleys to see if Morgan the Ex Bar Manager had been re-instated.. Sadly. Not !!! Radisson my advise to you is get Mr Morgan Feely back if you want this bar to succeed. A very good Manager of Staff, Food and most of all STANDARDS !!!
I come to Muscat approx 6 times a year and always would pop in to see how O'Malley's is doing, sadly it's slipping every visit !!
    Yours Sincerely,
    James North .
