But I guess 'planning' = talking and talking and politics as usual and nothing re: mass transit will ever happen in Muscat???
felicity fairweathernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2368053937631641478.post-66625345353228404592013-03-18T19:38:53.676+04:002013-03-18T19:38:53.676+04:00I would agree that parking garages would be very h...I would agree that parking garages would be very helpful. Uptake might be slow-ish, but people would learn for example that in the parking garage their car would be out of the sun? cheersFelicity Fairweatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08576775539664495210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2368053937631641478.post-91552155063984220402013-03-18T11:37:26.111+04:002013-03-18T11:37:26.111+04:00I think towing is the only option even though I kn...I think towing is the only option even though I know one day I could be affected by it. But at least knowing, I would think twice. There are measures in place to make people think twice but this only generally applies to expats. Locals see no issue with parking just about anywhere.

While the Muscat Municipality must make is cumpulsory for new buildings to have an adequate parking solution before being built (in the plans), I guess it's easier to gulp a whole lot of money instead.

The issue I see, even if parking spaces are more than adequate, the Omani way is not to park more than 10 meters from the entrance of a building. I think it might be haram to do so? Because every day I see people park beside an entrance or in the disabled spot even though there is ample room to park your car, best examples, MCC & Sultan Center.

Don't even bother talking about public transport, this is Oman... LOL! People in Oman don't do public transport.

Towing is the only option to get people thinking twice because if there's one thing a local doesn't like, it's inconvenience. Because in most cases it's incovenience that leads them to violate parking in the first place.Terryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14476309329214857158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2368053937631641478.post-12167944474448247092013-03-18T08:09:01.177+04:002013-03-18T08:09:01.177+04:00dont fix what aint broke..
If you want meters ever...dont fix what aint broke..
If you want meters everywhere, towing, clamping, and tickets on your car keep complaining.. then complain again when you get what you want!

Point is, anyone with wasta wouldn't be affected, and as an expat I don't need my car towing, and having to queue for 3 hours, after a taxi ride to Seeb to get it back!

Leave alone, unless you want UK parking regs in a country that has a two tier fine system.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2368053937631641478.post-62534229108112859622013-03-17T16:50:29.658+04:002013-03-17T16:50:29.658+04:00There are several empty waste land areas that coul...There are several empty waste land areas that could be turned into proper parking areas. Also agree that multi storey is the way to go here. Unfortunately though if the car park was even the shortest distance away from the driver's destination, they would still block someone in outside the door rather than walk! For example practically empty car park at the Opera House Galleria, and people park on the road past the entrance!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2368053937631641478.post-4985711892950686552013-03-17T16:44:06.187+04:002013-03-17T16:44:06.187+04:00The lowest hanging fruit with immediate impact wou...The lowest hanging fruit with immediate impact would be just to park between the lines, not on them...Omanlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14680092939945344781noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2368053937631641478.post-34385725989783422342013-03-17T16:15:07.261+04:002013-03-17T16:15:07.261+04:00We have the same issue of no available parkings at...We have the same issue of no available parkings at Royal Hospital but now there's a huge 400 cars parking space that was just opened...
