To the person who felt bad that Manager shouted at the Receptionist: Looks like you really know the staff very well. Never the less, I understand that people shouldn't yell at each other in front of the customers, however no one is absolutely perfect. Since you are harping so much about it, what did you do when this incident happened? Did you take the initiative to call up someone in their office and inform about this? If yes, then do you what was done from Horizon's end? No employee is perfect. Each one has their strenghts and improvement areas. May be for this individual, this was an improvement area. Every incident has to be looked at from different perspectives - just like the way there are 2 sides to the same coin. So,know the situation in entirity and then blog!

gosh what can i say?Horizon poor receptionist who has been mocked and embarrassed by her manager in front of clients...is that the way how she treats her employee and how can horizon choose this type of person to manage the branch?she is a very nice friendly,and intelligent receptionist she knows how to deal with people and even knows what she is saying when she offers membership and supplements too bad if they lost her.

Hi guys i agree with some of the blogs and disagree at the same time, i believe companies all over the world they start a business to make money, and no one can make anybody pay money if they do not wish to do so, SMS and flyers it is an advertising tool, like new paper adds , radio , tv, email, if a person gets bugged about that is up normal, it is so funny i going to call tv station and radio and ask them to stop advertising it is bugging me while i am watching a movie.

Personal trainer instructor, as it is blogged earlier you will have to have a certification to be able to train in fitness clubs in Oman.

in some other countries you carry an ACE certification "On line certification" and you can train in fitness clubs, even your major job is an accountant.

Please review the Sultanate's law on hiring expats to work as Fitness Instructors here in Oman. It clearly states that for anyone to work as Fitness Instructor in Oman, one must be a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy, Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, and/or any other related "medical" courses, which includes graduates in Nursing. Does it makes sense to you?
And besides, these people know Anatomy and Physiology well. Who then will be the best agent for HUMAN KINETICS? No one else but them. Gym and exercise is not just about bulks and complicated machines, its about developing physical wellbeing through proper, comprehensive and scientific analysis of body movements and optimum fitness.
Think First before throwing your Punches! Look at Manny Pacquiao, a FILIPINO, World's Greatest Boxer! Does it make sense to you now?

I know for a fact that most of the trainers in Horizon are NOT QUALIFIED to be fitness instructors. They are nurses and physiotherapists who don't know shit about the gym, especially most of the Filipina girls. They were only hired because they couldn't find jobs in the Philippines and are acquainted with Cora and her sister (who incidentally owns an employment agency and makes a killing whenever they recruit Filipino staff).

To the person who thinks that Horizon is not upto the standards and is all about money - This is not true and I completely agree that it is business at the end of the day. Also, not to deny the fact that Horizon is the pioneer of Fitness Clubs in Muscat. Who has the kind of centres that they have? The best thing that they have different options for everyone to suit everyone's budget. They do not force their charges on people. Every person has the capacity to think, to see and lastly take a decision. When I enrolled, they clearly asked me to read the Terms and Conditions. It is a fine print, but it clearly documents what exceptions can be done and what cannot be done. Let's admit the fact that most of us do not want to read through and sign blindly stating that it is on basis of "TRUST". Excuse me, it is a clear communication printed in Black and White so that the TRUST factor is maintained in both ways. But majority of us want to take an easy way out and when encoutered with a problem which has a price tag, then play the BLAME GAME. It's time that everyone starts taking some ownership before we blame others.

Kim, when people rent a certain location/place; there is a contract involved with the building management; there could be a lot of reasons as to why the second entrance is not opened if you are saying that there is. Maybe they did not allow it. I workout in that branch since the time that it has opened. There is a coffee shop there and you cannot prevent college boys from hanging out there. It's better to ignore their remarks and concentate on workout. I guess it would be better for you to tell the cofee shop people to have a seperate entrance for their customers, it would eliminate your problem!!!!

It was interesting to read but I don’t agree with some of u .alhamdullah in Muscat we have a lot of professional health clubs .what I think that if u were not happy with the service or the calls u were spouse to call the management and tell them about it .in every organization there is something call management .from day one when u were not happy with them u would call the branch and ask them to give u a number for the office and u would call and talk to the manger .
about the leaflets and the sms this is called marketing .it's really easy they r not forcing u ,the sms delete it our call omantel and tell them that u want to block them .(they is a service that u can block sms)and about the leflet throw it in the dustbin .simple as that.
U have judge all branches by visiting one branch .
I'm a member for almost 5 years and I'm really happy with them alhamdullah sometimes I see thing that I don’t like I direct call the management and complain about it and then the solve my prb.

if you say you ve been living in "THE" U.S for 8 years and tried the gyms and trained there all along, feel that the training staff of "HORIZON" (or shall i say so called physio-blah blah-blah FILIPPPINAS) are good, then my apologies, you don't have any idea about the REAL FITNESS TRAINING, they don't even know a thing about fitness training, i have been to 5 of their branches (RUWI, QURUM, AZAIBA, AL-KHUWEIR, and Al KHOUD) and interacted with most of the trainers and counseling (or just CON-"SELLING") staff, every one talks about discounts, proteins and just collecting money, rather than explaining why should anyone get into gyms or for that matter make fitness a lifestyle. And "ALL" let me repeat "ALL" tried to explain me that "we sweat in the steam" (i believe even a toddler knows that),than explaining me the physiological changes (vasco-constriction & dialation)and effects and uses of surrounding temperature chages, (lol...don't get surprised if they use the word we increase or decrease our body temperatures). if the "chain HORIZON) is genuinely interested in members results they must honestly try to improve the knowledge of the fitness staff and improve their commitment levels and "please listen to your members what they require".......or shall i simplify and say " all wants RESULTS"....

Thanks everyone for your comments. As with everything, you can't please everyone all the time. I didnt say Horizon's gyms were rubbish, in fact I said it was good that they've been expanding. And to be fair to Horizon they have done the best possible thing which is publicly replying here with contact information (info@horizonoman.com 95119199 or 24390455) which works.

It's good to see this sort of response as opposed to the usual finger-pointing and legal sabre rattling that usually happens. Good stuff.

I been a member in Horizon fitness since they open for almost 15 years now,obviously they growed up very fast with 14 locations it shows that the service is good and members are happy, you can't satisfy everyone . We can't deny Horizon had contributed health and fitness in the country , they help a lot to prevent any type of medical issues by making all people living in Oman fit and healthy. Also they support charity work in the country and also outside Oman.

I agree that some of the instructors are better than others. I have had 3 bad ones and 2 really good ones. At the moment my trainer in Azaiba is really excellent and has helped me to achieve my targets.

The big problem I have found is that the management move the personal trainers around the different branches. Just as I find a good trainer and get used to him he is transferred without any warning. "Oh you can have some other trainer" says the manager...Clearly he doesn't understand the meaning of the word "personal" trainer.

Also, there are never any bloody towels and they do sometimes try the hard sell with their products. I'm also pissed that Qurum is now ladies only so there is no place for guys to take a swim.

I have been living in the u.s for 8 years and I came to muscat for a visit. I was looking for a gym and so many people recommended horizon. I am very glad that I chose this gym because it's absolutely amazing, the staff are very friendlley and welcoming , the machines are very advanced. I'm very happy with this experience.
