Bahriyat seafood restaurant at the Grand Millennium hotel, MGM

Last week I had the pleasure of being invited to check out a new seafood restaurant at the recently opened Grand Millennium hotel at the Muscat Grand Mall in Ghubra. Being a fan of seafood, and Mrs Sythe most definitely not being a fan of seafood, I tend to take up a lot of offers of free fish.

Much unlike the parking in the MGM, the parking for the Millennium is actually... spacious. I found it easy to drive in and out of (no really narrow ramps) and the spaces felt bigger, but I didn't measure them. I didn't feel like my car would get dented parking there, which was nice, considering my car has received more than a few dents and scratches from being parked at MGM. Quite why anyone chooses to have an office in that building I am still trying to figure out, but I digress.

Bahriyat is located on the ground floor of the hotel, just off the lobby, conveniently right next to the all day dining restaurant for the hotel. It is fairly obvious that it is a seafood restaurant as there are fish on the walls outside it!

The restaurant itself is spacious with a number of different dining areas to choose from. The marine theme is carried on throughout the restaurant and I thought it was a nice space - and I found the lighting was sufficient to easily see what I was eating - too often it seems you either need sunglasses as its too bright, or the lights need to be turned up a bit. The window into the kitchen was a nice feature too.

The food itself was good. Some interesting twists on ways to present food, and I genuinely found that I enjoyed everything I tried. My personal favourite were the grilled shrimp, they really were good - and huge!

Pricing at the restaurant, which is now open every day from 6:30 pm, is reasonable, with a soup or salad in the range of RO 5, and a main course ranging between RO 7.5 to RO 13. Its well worth a visit if you are a fan of seafood and want to try somewhere new. I didn't indulge in the Cheese Kunafa (RO 3.5) (not my thing) but the people I was with for dinner all did, and they all raved about it, trying to get me to eat it - but I resisted! However - I guess it was worth a mention! Also worth a mention is pointing out that the Grand Millennium hotel at MGM is a dry hotel.
